Like my friend who posted two weeks ago it is my first time posting here.
My name is Ryan Toh, Year 1, from the Diploma of Accounting And Finance.
As Tevin has said about the outline on what you will get to do during the PPP duration, I will share my experience when I took my CDS.
Transnational Studies (TNS) is a compulsory CDS. For this CDS, you are required to stay at Temasek Green which is a residence area located at the end of the engineering school. You get to stay there with your friends for two weeks. Five person will be allocated a apartment and it is then where you get to bond with your classmates and know them better. During that two weeks will be the most enjoyable thing you will experience during the PPP.
For my elective CDS I took Jap language. You get to learn basic things about japan like how many prefectures are there in Japan and what are the names of their prince and emperor. You will also learn how to speak basic japanese too. The fun part of this CDS would be the final presentation skit where you need to act and speak in japanese. The skit was the most memorable part for me as I a guy acted as a Geisha hahas.
I really enjoyed throughout the duration of the PPP as I made awesome friends then which until now I will meet with them at least once each week to eat dinner.

HELLO PEEPS!

Hello Everyone who's reading this!
As you can see, this blog had not have a proper post in a while.. But I can assure you this would change, starting from today.
Firstly, since this is my first post here, let me start by introducing myself!
My name is Tevin Chew, currently year 1 in Diploma of Accounting And Finance.
And of course, I DPA-ed into this course while studying for my O's last year!
Well to start of, I would just like to clarify with everyone that the process of DPA is not as difficult as it may seem. Personally, I was rather shocked when I realized I was accepted in as a DPA student as I always had the impression that DPA had a low acceptance rate and only 1 out of the many hundreds would be accepted. However, after being accepted, I was proven wrong! So for all of you who currently have such impression, let it go and be confident, you might be surprised what your outcome might be. Just remember, the three qualities of a DPA student is having the 'Drive', 'Passion' and the 'Attitude'.
If you are still not aware, all DPA students would have to go through an 8 week Polytechnic-Preparatory-Programme, PPP for short. Throughout this programme, I can assure you that you'll get to know many other DPA students from other courses and forge priceless friendships way before the actual school term starts. Besides, during the PPP, you'll also get a chance to complete 2 Cross-Disiplinary Subjects (CDS). This would give you a big advantage over other students since you'll be able to free up time even before school starts!
For more information regarding the PPP visit :http://www.tp.edu.sg/home/admissions/adm_exercise/dpa/dpa_ppp.htm
I really had a great time with my friends throughout this 8 weeks and I hope that you'd too! So what are you waiting for? Hurry before application closes this Wednesday. If you have any queries, you can leave a message on the Zopim chat box below or you could contact us at tp.dpateam@gmail.com

PPP Closing Ceremony and beyond..
Written on: Friday, April 9, 2010 Time: 3:53 AM
April 1st marked the end of the Polytechnic Preparatory Programme (PPP) for the 2010 batch of DPA students, as the 8-week programme drew to a close. Within the span of 8 weeks, 136 DPA students went through Cross-Disciplinary Subjects as well as School-related coursework, giving them the feel of a polytechnic education before starting the school term in Mid-April.
The Closing ceremony held on the 1st of April was one that was short and sweet, but one which brought back memories of the past 8 weeks. Throughout the short period of time, the friendships that formed and the experiences that were shared were priceless, and this simple ceremony summed up the emotions for everyone and gave everyone the time to remember the good times.
For a bit of fun, the lecturers that have guided the students through their studies during the PPP have identified a few within the many for their different outstanding characteristics. Awards like "Mr Master Chef" and "Little Miss Chatterbox" were among the many that were given out.
April 1st also saw a joyous occasion for one particular group as a fellow DPA mate celebrated her birthday on the previous day. Seen here are the group presenting the birthday card and presents.
The seniors also planned a special one day event that coincided with the closing ceremony, as a form of recreation for the juniors (especially after being through the academic demands of polytechnic life), as well as a time for everyone, senior and junior, to bond as a DPA community.
Games were planned, which saw teams split up to compete amongst each other, but more importantly to work closely as a team.
Though no official statistics were taken, it was definitely sure that bonding did happen, if you get what I mean... *winks*
The "Amazing Race"-style games led them all around the east side of the island, uncovering the region for those unfamiliar to the area and challenging residents of these areas on their knowledge of the places, to find the stations.
At the end of the day, students converged at the end point, which as a surprise turned out to be a chalet, with BBQ provided. This turned out to be a turning point as the events do continue on till night. Students really had the chance to unwind and relax after all the studying required during the PPP.
This event was really a new one, for both the planners as well as participants. For the participants, it marked the end of the PPP as well as a prelude to the new beginnings that polytechnic life would entail. As time passes by, one would definitely remember the times back in DPA where everyone shared the same project blues, and suffered the cruel examinations together. It is also a time where DPA students explore their new surroundings together and really start to discover their school.
Meanwhile, the Academic Experiences give students a headstart in knowing what is to be expected by lecturers once term starts. PPP is a time where one would really start to know more about one's new surroundings and oneself, in these new surroundings.
Though the DPA PPP for the 2010 batch is officially over, many out there are still reliving the times during PPP, and it is sure that many would continue to remember them for many years to come.
And with that, the Polytechnic Preparatory Programme (PPP) for the DPA batch of 2010 draws to a close, as everyone gets ready for term to start soon.
DPA Event 2010!
Written on: Wednesday, March 24, 2010 Time: 11:06 PM
I hope everyone has had a great PPP so far. As the PPP is drawing to a close, we have organised an event for all of you.
Here are the details as follows:
Date: 1st April 2010
Time: Event will commence exactly after the Closing Ceremony
Cost: $8 for event + $12 for DPA T-shirt
For the main bulk of those who have paid, this does not concern you, but for those who have not paid yet, we would like to collect the money from you on the day itself.
I am sure everyone has many enquiries, and many people have already asked about the details. Thus, we have decided to reveal that the $8 paid will include a chalet.
This Chalet was meant to be a surprise for all of you, but due to the many questions received about the ending time, we feel it would be fair to reveal this chalet to you. We still guarantee that this event will be a blast!
Thus, you may leave at any time that you want to after the event, but dinner will be provided as well so you are encouraged to stay on for the chalet.
Lastly, if there are other enquiries, you may post them on the tagboard at the side and we will try to answer them at the earliest possible moment.

Hey guys :)

About me
What is Direct Polytechnic Admission?
1. The Direct Polytechnic Admissions (DPA) Exercise is an admission exercise which allows students who have the passion and
aptitude for applied learning to secure a place in a polytechnic course before you sit for your ‘O’ Level examinations.
2. It’s an avenue for students whose passion and talent in a specific field are not fully reflected in their examination results.
Why DPA?
It gives us greater flexibility to select you based on a wider range of your talents other than your examination results.
You get to enjoy special preparatory programmes which let you chalk up poly credits counting towards your graduation before your friends even enrol!
What our Pioneers say!
Cheryl:
“Initially, I wondered why my other secondary school friends were playing while I was studying and starting my poly life so soon. Over time, I have learnt many things from DPA.
My Cross Disciplinary Subjects: Japanese Language and Psychology of Creativity, are subjects that I don’t find in my secondary school. I also learnt to be a leader when we were camping together.
It's more than studies in Polytechnic Preparatory Programme (PPP). It's all about fun, learning, interaction and friendship. This was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.”
Nur Fazleena:
“I personally feel that DPA is very enriching as we are given a broader view and better insights about the courses offered in the Business school. Also,we are lucky to be able to try out some CCAs.
PPP helps us to be more familiar with the TP environment and culture. We have the chance to bond with the seniors too. It feels great to be among the unique first batch of students.”
Zhi Yong:
“DPA - It’s an exercise we would never want to miss, a journey that leads to great friendships and unexpected valuable learning as well.”
Kenneth:
"DPA is one admission exercise different from any other Direct Entry Exercise. The friends you make here last forever.
Besides, DPA allows me to finish three CDS and collect nine credit units within the fun-filled eight-week PPP in TP."
Theresa:
"DPA gives an edge over the rest? Definitely! And it comes with whole lot of fun, learning and excitement.
The best part is I get to meet friends that I would never let go of."
